Formally known as Senate Bill 249, AN ACT TO REALIGN THE NORTH CAROLINA CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS, the bill actually is the NC Republican response to the demand by Donald Trump to redraw congressional district NC01 to attempt to guarantee a Republican to take the place of Democratic incumbent Don Davis.
If successful, this would worsen the imbalance of NC congressional districts to 11 Republican districts and 3 Democratic districts. This in a state that votes nearly 50/50 in statewide races like President, Governor, Senators, Council-of-State, and Judges.
On October 20, 2025, the NC Senate voted on SB 249 and after two hours of debate, it passed on strictly party lines.
Several of the photographs highlight State Senator Natalie Murdock. She represents Chatham and Durham Counties.
