Under the leadership of Joanna Hedrick, volunteers made a series of banners to show love and support for the Buddhist monks who are on a 2,300 mile “Walk for Peace” from Ft. Worth, Texas to Washington DC. The monks’ journey has captured the imagination of the nation as they bring their message of mindfulness and peace along the way.

They spent three days in Chatham County on January 21-23 where they were met by thousands of people who lined roadways along their path. They spent the night, first in Siler City and then in Pittsboro where they spoke with large outdoor audiences each night.

Joanna and the volunteers were optimistic but uncertain if the monks would even see their banners, but over the three day visit, they were seen by not only the monks, but by thousands of other people who appreciated their message.
