NC Democratic Party Statement On

157th Anniversary of Juneteenth

North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement:

“157 years ago today, Juneteenth was born. On this day, we remember the message of freedom delivered to slaves by union soldiers in Galveston, Texas at the end of the Civil War and the resilience of a nation to emerge from the darkest moments in history.

As Americans continue to feel the impact of systemic racism in our society, this day is a reminder to take stock of the work still left to do and use the lessons of the past to build a better future for generations to come. Today we honor our ancestors who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. Let us honor them by continuing to aim toward our highest American ideals of equality and opportunity for all.”

The Chatham County Democratic Party was one of many community sponsors of Pittsboro's Juneteenth celebration that was held on Saturday, June 18 at the Chatham County Fairgrounds. We had a tent and table where we saw many long-time friends and met many new friends during the celebration.
