Election Wheels in Motion
10/20/2026
We tend to think about elections only when we go to the polls to vote for the candidates and issues of our choosing, but the work of elections is a year round process that is performed by the Board of Elections and the elections staff who make it happen.
At their regular monthly meeting on the evening of October 20, the Chatham County Board of Elections processed all of the 283 absentee mail-in ballots received so far. This process consisted of a spot-check of one of the ballots and then reviewing all of them and feeding them into a tabulator which is the same type of scanner that we all feed our ballot into when we vote at a traditional polling location.
Now that the election in North Carolina is underway with early voting until October 31, the Chatham County Board of Elections will meet on October 27, November 2, and November 3 (Election Day) for business and absentee meetings. For more information check their website.
Board of Elections meetings are open to the public in-person and online.
