What happens to ballots on election night?
As I (Greg Stewart) was editing these photographs, I wrestled with how to describe the process of vote counting on Election Day night. Then I remembered that Chatham County Democratic Party 1st Vice Chair Vickie Shea had written an excellent description of what happens to our ballots. Her document is available in total right here on the Chatham County Democratic Party website and provides a thorough description of what happens to our ballots after we vote. Here’s the link to the full document. https://www.ccdpnc.org/what-happens-to-my-ballot
Here’s the first segment of Vickie’s excellent description . . .
"Voters understandably want to know what happens to their ballots after they have been cast. Knowing how election results are determined can assure voters that our elections include many checks and balances, and that all votes are secure, confidential, and counted accurately.
North Carolina elections are conducted according to federal and state law. These laws set out how elections are run and who is responsible for overseeing them. Authority for overseeing elections falls to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE), to each county’s board of elections, and to election staff."
Again, here’s Vickie's entire document. https://www.ccdpnc.org/what-happens-to-my-ballot
