Sue Blalock

Democratic Party chair, Sue Blalock, provides updates on the latest news and events for the start of September.

Greetings Chatham Dems,

Another busy weekend ahead. Tomorrow (Saturday, September 6th), I'll be having my monthly Pop-In Hours at the Pittsboro Community Engagement Center from noon to 2 pm.  No program, but a great opportunity for new volunteers (or prospective volunteers) to learn more about CCDP and how to get involved. And, of course there will be cookies!

Time to fight fire with fire. Democrats in California have asked for our help to stop Trump from rigging the 2026 midterm elections. They need people to make phone calls to California voters in support of Prop 50 ("The Election Rigging Response Act"). Click here to learn more. They especially need folks who speak  Spanish. Click here to join a bilingual phone bank. (Be sure to note that times are in the Pacific Time Zone.)

Want to help voters targeted by the Registration Repair Project update their voter registration? Lace up your sneakers and join us for door-to-door canvasses on September 20th and 27th. We will be knocking on the doors of people on the list to make sure they know how to update their voter registration. Click here fore more information.

Help Shine a Light. Due to the power grab orchestrated by Republicans in the General Assembly last December, election oversight in North Carolina is now controlled by the Republican Party. And, it is becoming increasingly apparent why they wanted to be in control. At the last meeting of the Chatham County Board of Elections, the Board rejected several staff recommendations for election site judges. Votes were along party lines, with several experienced and qualified Democratic election site judges being replaced by Republican ones. If we needed a wake-up call, we got it. Help shine a light on what is taking place by attending meetings of the NC State Board of Elections and the Chatham County Board of Elections. Then, talk to others about what you learn. The Boards need to know that we are watching and will hold them accountable for any disruptions in the election process in upcoming elections.

November Municipal Elections. Municipal elections will be held in the towns of Apex, Cary, Goldston, Pittsboro, and Siler City. And, some important deadlines are approaching. If you are registered to vote and live in one of these municipal districts, click here to find your sample ballot. Not registered or need to update your address? If you have a North Carolina driver's license or other NCDMV identification, you may submit a voter registration application online. For information about other ways you can register to vote, click here. The regular deadline for registering is October 10th. Eligible voters may also register at an Early Voting Site, but not on Election Day

Check out our calendar for other upcoming events.
