From town halls with Sen. Mark Kelly to phone banks, canvasses, and local spotlights, Chatham Dems are mobilizing to defend voting rights and hold Trump accountable—holiday weekend or not.

Greetings Chatham Dems,

I know it's a holiday weekend, but there's a lot going on!

Wanna meet an astronaut? On Sunday, August 31st, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly will join North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson and the North Carolina Democratic Party for a veterans and military families town hall to hold the Trump Administration accountable for cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Click here for more information.

Want to help voters targeted by the Registration Repair Project update their voter registration? The North Carolina Democratic Party is organizing phone banks to make sure affected voters take the necessary actions to ensure they can cast a regular ballot in upcoming elections. Training is provided via Zoom. No travel or prior experience is required. Just a deep conviction that every eligible voter deserves the chance to make their voice heard. Click here for more information.

Just a heads up. On September 20th and 27th, we will be launching door-to-door canvasses to reach any voters in Chatham who still need to update their registration. (Yes, we take voting seriously!) So, find your sneakers and keep your eyes open for more information in mid-September.

In the news:

  • Voting Rights Under Seige: There is no doubt why Republicans in the General Assembly executed the power grab last November, moving control of the State Board of Elections from the office of the Governor, where it had resided for over 100 years, to the office of the State Auditor, an office that had just been won by Republican Dave Boliek. Among other things, Sunday voting is in serious jeopardy. Watch for upcoming Calls to Action. We have no attention of obeying in advance!

  • US Senate Race: Roy Cooper believes that "if we work together, we can build a North Carolina that works for everyone."" His likely opponent for the US Senate in November 2026, Michael Whatley, has a different vision for North Carolina. Click here to learn more about how Whatley's agenda would hurt working families across North Carolina.

  • Wondering what else is going on? Check out the top local, state, and national/international stories of the week in News You Can Use, compiled by super volunteer  Alan Buis.

Forward together,
