Greetings Chatham Dems,
Always wanted to see Senator Bernie Sanders? This is your chance. He will be holding rallies (Fight Oligarchy: Where we grow from here) in Greensboro and Asheville on Sunday, August 10th. We are organizing a car pool to the Greensboro rally. Click here for more information.
On another note, news usually travels fast in Chatham County. But, I am told that there are a few folks out there who have not heard that Roy Cooper is running for the US Senate. Yes, that is our own, beloved, Former Governor Roy Cooper! Help us spread the word.
On the Republican side, Michael Whatley, Chair of the Republican National Committee, is also running for the Senate seat. It shouldn't even be a contest. After passage of Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill", Whatley called gutting health care from more than 650,000 North Carolinians a “huge win.” And, if you are wondering: Is this the same Michael Whatley who called former Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson a "man of the people" and said "We need more candidates like Mark in politics." Yes, it is the same Michael Whatley.

Interested in seeing how elections work from the other side of the table? The Chatham County Board Of Elections is recruiting registered voters to work at polling sites during early voting this fall and on Election Day. Election workers are vital to ensuring secure, fair, and accessible elections. These are paid positions. Click here for more information.
Veto Update. The General Assembly is on break until August 26th. Thanks to the hard work of the Democratic leadership, including Democratic Leader Robert Reives, we believe the Republicans in the House will be unable to override any of the other bills that have been vetoed by Governor Stein this year. These include bills that would ban DEI practices in state agencies and public schools, including the UNC system and community colleges. If you have a few minutes to spare, please send Representative Reives and Senator Murdock a thank you note to let them know how much we all appreciate the hard work they put in fighting for us. Click here for Representative Reives. Click here for Senator Murdock.
Photo Blog. Super volunteer Greg Stewart is everywhere. And, always taking pictures. Click here to see his newest entry in the CCDP Photoblog showing Senator Natalie Murdock, Leader Robert Reives, and a few of their friends making good trouble in the NC General Assembly on July 29th.
Wondering what else is going on? One of our super volunteers, Alan Buis, to the rescue! He has distilled the top local, state, and national/international stories of the week for you. Check them out in News You Can Use.
