Greetings Chatham Dems,
Yet another busy week ahead and we have three important volunteer opportunities to highlight. (We'll do our best not to let it grow much longer.)
First, yesterday was not a good day for Democrats in Raleigh. Republicans in the General Assembly overrode eight Stein vetoes and still have their hopes set on overriding six more. They cannot succeed if all of our elected Democratic representatives in the NC House hold firm and support the Governor's Veto.
The North Carolina Democratic Party is calling on all Democratic legislators to vote to sustain the Governor's veto. You can help by emailing or calling Democratic members of NC House asking them to live up to the values of The People they were elected to represent.
Second, the NC Board of Elections (BoE) has identified 103,270 voters whose voter registration records lack either their driver's license number or social security number. Beginning in August, the BoE will mail notices to these voters informing them that they must update their registration or they will be required to vote a provisional ballot the next time they vote. (Provisional ballots are more likely than regular ballots to be rejected.)
The North Carolina Democratic Party is planning to reach out to these voters to help them make the required updates. Attend a virtual meeting on July 30th at 6:00 pm to learn how you can help.
Third, we are already working to win elections in 2026 and we need your help to take back the courts. Join us for a door-to-door canvass in North Williams precinct on Saturday, August 2nd. Canvassing is the most effective way to educate and energize voters. Click here to learn more.
But wait, there is more.
Just feel like talking? Stop by the Pittsboro Community Engagement Center on Saturday, August 2nd, from noon to 2:00 pm for my monthly pop-in hours. No program....just cookies, iced tea, and conversation.
Last Call for the School Supply and Book Drive: This is our final call for donations for the school supply and book drive we are organizing to help Chatham kids. Click here for more information.
Attorney General Jeff Jackson keeps picking fights. Last week, the AG took on the US Department of Education to restore $165 million in federal funding for our schools. This week, he is suing FEMA for illegally cancelling over $200 million headed to North Carolina to better prepare us for future floods. Ya gotta love this guy. When we fight, we win.
Great new resource: Trump Tax. This new website breaks down the impact of the Trump tax agenda on every state. It shows how the budget bill that Trump pushed into law takes money out of working people’s pockets to give handouts to the rich. Lots of good information to amplify.
Wondering what else is going on? One of our super volunteers, Alan Buis, to the rescue! He has distilled the top local, state, and national/international stories of the week for you. Check them out in News You Can Use.
